Taking a dog into Grand Canyon National Park
Above the rim, yes. Leashed pets are allowed on South Rim trails above the rim and throughout developed areas, but not below the canyon rim. Service animals — a dog individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability — are permitted on the Corridor Trails below the rim, where pets are not.
What Grand Canyon National Park actually requires
- On the South Rim, leashed pets are allowed on trails above the rim, in Mather Campground, Desert View Campground and Trailer Village, and throughout developed areas.
- On the North Rim, leashed pets are only allowed on the bridle trail, or greenway, that connects the North Kaibab Trail, and on the portion of the Arizona Trail running north to the park entrance station.
- Pets are not allowed below the canyon rim, which rules out the inner canyon trails.
- Service animals are permitted on the Corridor Trails: Bright Angel, South Kaibab and North Kaibab.
- A kennel near Maswik Lodge on the South Rim takes dogs and cats for day and overnight boarding, open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
