Flying with a dog on Delta Air Lines

Small dogs may travel in the cabin on domestic flights if they meet Delta's age, health, size and kennel requirements. Trained service dogs travel under separate rules from carry-on pets; check Delta's service animal requirements.

What Delta Air Lines actually requires

  • Small dogs, cats and household birds are accepted in the cabin on domestic flights.
  • The pet must travel in a soft-sided, leak-proof kennel with ventilation on at least three sides for domestic travel.
  • The kennel must fit fully under the seat in front of you.
  • A per-direction pet fee applies, and it is higher on international routes.
  • Space is first-come, first-served with a per-flight limit that depends on cabin, so book the pet onto the flight early.
  • There is a minimum age for the animal — eight weeks for domestic travel.
