Four terms carry almost all the price difference in pet aftercare, and none of them is legally standardised. What a provider means by “private” is that provider’s definition, which is why this site stores each business’s own wording next to the normalised label rather than replacing it.

There is one question worth asking every provider, whichever option you choose: describe your process for this service. A business that separates pets in a shared chamber and a business that runs one pet at a time may use the same word on their price list, and the answer to that question is the thing you are actually buying. Accreditation bodies publish terminology and practice standards covering transport, recordkeeping and cremation practices, which is a reasonable second thing to ask about and is linked in the sources below.

Posted cremation and aquamation prices

These are prices read directly from provider websites, each linked and dated. Coverage is AZ, CA, CO, FL, NY, PA, TX, WA — 8 states, not the country — and a provider appears here because it publishes prices at all, which most do not.

Compare like with like or the comparison is worthless. A bundle that includes the euthanasia appointment, home pickup, a clay paw print and delivery of the ashes is not comparable to a standalone cremation fee, even though both appear in the same column. The conditions column is where that difference lives.

Transport, keepsakes and delivery

The extras are usually small and usually separate. Providers in this dataset post clay paw prints, fur clipping, aftercare transport coordination and home delivery of ashes as individually priced lines rather than as part of the cremation fee.

How much does dog cremation cost?

Posted prices in this dataset run from $30 for group cremation of a 0 to 5 lb pet at a New York nonprofit to $1,050 for a private aquamation bundle in New York City. Standalone private cremation is posted anywhere between $60 for that same smallest weight band and $650 in Los Angeles, with weight bands and whether collection is included explaining most of the spread. Every figure links to the provider page it came from.

What is the difference between private and communal cremation?

Communal cremation means multiple pets are cremated together and remains are generally not returned to an individual family. Private cremation means a single pet in the chamber under that provider's definition, with the cremated remains returned to you. The gap between them is the largest single price difference in pet aftercare, and the definitions are the provider's, not an industry standard.

What is partitioned or individually separated cremation?

It is the middle option, and the one to ask about most carefully. Multiple pets may be in the chamber at once with separation or location controls, and remains are returned. Because each provider defines the separation differently, the same word can describe meaningfully different practices. What is aquamation for pets?

Aquamation, also called alkaline hydrolysis, is a water-based alternative to flame cremation, and local availability varies a great deal. In this dataset one Los Angeles provider posts $449 for aquamation and a New York City provider posts $1,050 for a private aquamation bundle in the under-30lb band. Whether anyone near you offers it at all is a local question.

Is transport of the body included in the price?

Sometimes, and it is worth asking outright. Body pickup and transport may be included or charged separately, and this dataset contains providers doing both: some post a cremation-only price with home pickup built in, others list a separate transport fee. Ashes delivery back to you can also be a separate line.

Are these prices national averages?

No, and they are not averaged at all. Each is a price a named business published on its own website on a stated date, covering eight states. This site does not blend them into a national figure, because a mean of self-selected published prices would look authoritative while describing nothing that exists.
